Program for Women’s Empowerment and Self Sustenance
This organisation located in the mountains of South India supports young women from poor communities by empowering them with fair employment, making toys and quilts. In this group the women are also taught life-skills such as budgeting, all of which help end the cycle of poverty in their families. Because of the success of the group, and people like you who have bought their products, some of the women have been able to save enough to put a deposit down on a house, uplifting them out of a life of poverty.
Shanthi had lost her husband at the age of 22 and was left to support her child on her own, she was fortunate enough to be approached by an NGO that was providing vocational training and skill development. Shanthi took up this opportunity and got busy building her skills which helped her deal with her grief and loss. She worked in the same organization for 12 years and learned all the basics of sewing techniques, handicrafts, and sales.
Shanthi wanted to empower other women & provide them with the same support she had received as so she founded PROWESS in 2007.
The Self Help Group consists of 16 women that have been working together from day one at Prowess, your donation will help contribute to supporting them all.
